Welcome one and all to the RAW RECAP presented by THE REVELLEUTION! Survivor Series is fast approaching, and with it a new triple brand battle as the old format of Raw against Smackdown now has NXT in the mix against the ‘main roster’ brands. After NXT invaded Smackdown last week, will Raw be ready for a possible follow-up? Let’s get into it and find out…
Non-Title Tag Team Match
CHARLOTTE FLAIR & NATALYA defeated Women’s Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors ASUKA & KAIRI SANE
Early on there was an awkward spot where Flair was reaching for a tag but had to stall and wait to be cut off, so Natalya had to pull her hand back so to not be tagged. Flair almost won the match with a Natural Selection on Sane, but Asuka but Sane’s foot on the ropes. The finish to the solid match came after Natalya countered an Asuka Lock attempt into the Sharpshooter for a tap-out win on Asuka.
Mixed Tag Team Match
ZELINA VEGA & Andrade defeated CATALINA & Sin Cara
At the start of the match, Catalina hit a Senton off the apron onto Andrade. Vega responded later with a nice Moonsault to Cara on the floor. The men worked the start of the match before the women were tagged in. At one point Catalina hit a less than impressive looking Crossbody, but hit a nice looking Wheelbarrow Facebuster later on. The end came when Vega countered a Turnbuckle Powerbomb attempt into a Headscissors, before hitting a Basement ‘Rana onto the Luchadora for a win that seemed to shock Vega.
There was more bad (in more ways than one!) wife stuff from LANA as she claimed her boyfriend Bobby Lashley had a ‘groin strain’, but it was just a setup for a beatdown for Rusev.
CHARLY CARUSO tried to interview BECKY LYNCH, but NXT Women’s Champion SHAYNA BASZLER interrupted to get into a war of words with Lynch. The WWE also announced a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series between the Women’s Champions of the brands: Bayley Vs Becky Lynch Vs Shayna Baszler.
Lynch and Baszler had some good insults, but bring up Ronda Rousey just reminds the fans that without being friends with Rousey, Baszler wouldn’t have gotten a foot in the door in WWE in the first place. If the WWE wants to seriously build Baszler like they’ve done in NXT, they need to keep Rousey references to be non existant. I think the Triple Threat at Survivor Series will be a great one however with these three involved, and tough to call who will win it.
Catalina doesn’t appear ready yet for being on TV, both in terms of offence and look. Her taking the loss here might be a sign that the WWE might have seen they’ve made a mistake in calling her up far too soon. It was nice to see Vega getting a long overdue win however and she was showcased strongly. Perhaps the WWE can use her more as a wrestler than just wasting her as a valet?
Flair and Natalya still don’t click as a duo, but there isn’t any other challenger team right now for the Warriors. The match was fine, but the Warriors are suffering the IIconics treatment by being loss fodder for other Superstars which isn’t good for the long run. Still waiting to see when Flair will stab Nattie in the back however.
That’s your lot for this week! Be sure to stop by in seven days time for the next edition of the RAW RECAP! See you then!
