The WWE unleashed a major surprise during the week, with a title change for the first time in years at a live event. Stephanie Vaquer, fresh off of losing a title match on Raw last week, captured the Women’s World Championship by defeating Liv Morgan in an event in her homeland of Chile. With a major assit from the Special Guest Referee in the match, Becky Lynch. What will the fallout be from that title match? And who will advance to the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match from this week’s Triple Threat Match? Let’s get into it, and find out…
Kicking off the edition of Raw in Mexico, the new Women’s World Champion STEPHANIE VAQUER was introduced to the ring by Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and AAA GM Rey Mysterio. With highlights of the finish of the live event match where Vaquer won the title being shown before she was introduced. Vaquer celebrated winning back ‘her’ title and then spoke in her native tongue to the approval of the Mexican crowd. In English, she said it was the joy of her life to win back ‘my’ title in her home of Chile, calling it an honour.
Naturally, LIV MORGAN with Dominik Mysterio interrupted as Morgan called Vaquer a hypocrite, saying it made her sick that she was celebrating with ‘her’ title and complaining that she got screwed by Becky Lynch. Morgan did her usual ‘GOAT’ line and insulted Rey Mysterio before calling Vaquer a ‘Puta’. The spotlight however would be ripped off from the women with highlights of Dominik’s title loss at the AAA TripleMania show to El Grande Americano shown, leading to Americano coming out. That all led to a mixed tag being official between the title rivals.
Mixed Tag Team Match
Women’s World Champion STEPHANIE VAQUER & AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano defeated The Judgement Day (LIV MORGAN & Dominik Mysterio) by DQ.
Rey Mysterio stayed at ringside for the match. The men kicked off the match with the rules stating that men could only face the men under mixed rules.
Eventually Morgan would tag in to make the women legal, and Morgan paid for mouthing off at Americano when he ducked, allowing Vaquer to hit a Crossbody off the top to Morgan. Followed up by the trio of strikes, finished with a Headbutt before using misdirection rope running to get a form of the 120% Roll-Up for barely a two count. Morgan went for her trio of strikes, but Vaquer ducked the Enzigiri and moments later would counter a Sunset Flip with a double rake of the boots across Morgan’s forehead. Vaquer went to run the ropes, but Dominik Mysterio used a Low Bridge of the middle rope to make Vaquer (awkwardly) tumble to the floor. Morgan took advantage, pummelling Vaquer on an announce table.
Back inside, Morgan hit stomps in a corner. Setting up for the Corner Back Elbow, the rollout, the Corner Knee Strike and then sending Vaquer out for a Basement Dropkick to get a near fall. Morgan hit Three Amigos then hit the Enzigiri, but ran into a counter Dropkick from Vaquer when she tried for a 619. The women tagged out to make the men legal. Morgan managed to distract Americano to allow Dominik a chance to recover to dump Americano on the top rope for a crotch shot. Later in the match, Morgan would haul Vaquer from the apron to prevent Americano from making a tag.
The women would eventually get tagged back in. Vaquer hit a Suplex then a Powerslam soon after, pulled back up into a Final Cut for a two count. Morgan escaped a SVB attempt but moments later took the Corner Dragon Screw. Vaquer hit the full ten shots of Devil’s Kiss, then a Corner Meteora. Dominik would distract, allowing Morgan to hit a Backstabber on Vaquer before Americano took out Dominik. Americano took too long playing to the fans, taking a slap from Morgan but she got a Superkick from Vaquer. That set up Vaquer hitting a 619 onto both Morgan and Dominik.
As both Americano and Vaquer went up top, the rest of The Judgement Day came out and got the match thrown out with RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ (and ROXANNE PEREZ was with her) yanking down Vaquer from the ropes in full view of the ref. JD McDonagh doing the same to pull down Americano. Perez would send Vaquer into the ring steps and with the men putting a beating on Americano, Vaquer was sent back inside to take ObLIVion from Morgan. The Heels stood tall at the end, posing with the titles they lost to close out the segment.
MAXXINE DUPRI would accompany Austin Theory and be ringside for his men’s MITB Triple Threat Qualifying Match against Big Cass and Je’Von Evans. Late in the match, Dupri would pull her man Theory out of the ring to save him from taking Cass’ Running Big Boot, all legal under Triple Threat rules. Later, Dupri would mouth off at Cass, trying to get her man the edge but Cass managed to swat down the attempted leap off the announce desk. However, Evans would win the match by pinning Cass not long after taking out Theory with a modified Sliced Bread.
BAYLEY had a promo video. Lamenting about the actions of her rival Lyra Valkyria and the insults, objecting to the idea of all her accomplishments over the past years meant nothing. Calling Valkyria selfish and vowing to end her career before it gets going. Calling herself the ‘standard of women’s wrestling’.
Triple Threat Match – Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
LOLA VICE defeated Women’s Intercontiental Champion RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ and NXT Women’s Champion KELANI JORDAN
Jodan had a cut-in video with some highlights of her big moves to help put her over as she made her entrance. Jordan bailed from the ring right away, leaving Rodriguez to control Vice with a Wristlock. Vice countered with a kick, just to be shut down with a Shoulder Check. Vice ducked shots and got in some strikes and kicks, leading to an Arm Bar attempt as Rodriguez looked to counter with the classic Powerbomb spot. Jordan took advantage to slide in, hitting a Dropkick to the held Vice before kipping up. Jordan showed off her athletic talents, flipping out from a Powerslam attempt from Rodriguez and then another flip escape when Rodriguez’s power blocked a backward spingboard move. Yet another flip to the feet allowed Jordan to counter a Chokeslam attempt.
Vice and Jordan briefly teamed up to pepper Rodriguez with strikes, using a Double Team Clothesline to send Rodriguez out. Jordan would deck Vice, but got pulled out of the ring by Rodriguez. Moments later, Jordan hit an Asai Moonsault from the ropes to Rodriguez on the floor, before Vice landed a Seated Senton from the apron to Jordan. Rodriguez wiped out Vice with a Running Crossbody on the floor as the show went to a ‘commercial break’.
In the ring, Rodriguez roughed up Vice and hit the Diesel Elbows in a corner before hitting a Bodyslam for a near fall. Rodriguez hit a Corner Splash to Vice and went for the Vader Bomb but took too long taunting as Jordan shoved her over the ropes to the floor. Jordan hit a Legdrop on Vice before things got a little sloppy with a wild kick from Vice, then another messy running kick to Jordan in a corner. Jordan hit a Double Springboard Flying Forearm, pulled up into a Half-Hatch Suplex but Rodriguez broke up the bridging pin with a kick to Jordan’s side. After tossing Jordan, Rodriguez hit an Elbow Drop on Vice for a two count then locked on a Camel Clutch resthold.
The show returned to ‘live action’ as Vice used a Low Bridge to send Rodriguez out, which allowed Jordan to send Rodriguez into the ring steps. Inside, Vice hit her Spin Kicks then hit the peppering kicks to both opponents. A Spinning Thrust Kick hit Rodriguez before Vice hit Hip Attacks to both oppoents in opposite corners, then a Back Suplex to Jordan for a near fall. Vice would get taken out by Rodriguez’s Rewind Clothesline. Jordan tried for a Hurricanrana off the top rope to Rodriguez but her power blocked it, and Jordan countered that with a Sunset Flip pin for a near fall. Jordan hit a Frog Splash to Rodriguez before she and Vice ducked one another’s spin kicks, leading to Vice barely catching Jordan with another Spin Kick to the face. Rodriguez broke up the pin.
Rodriguez hit a Corner Splash to Vice then a Fallaway Slam. Jordan avoided a corner charge so Rodriguez hit the ring post, and Jordan tried for a 450 Splash but Vice (in somewhat slow motion from Jordan’s landing) countered with a Triangle Choke. Rodriguez broke it up with the Vader Bomb Elbow. Rodriguez tried for the Tijana Bomb but Vice countered with a Back Choke, only to get tossed down by the hair. A Running Big Boot aimed for Vice was ducked, taking Jordan off the apron. Vice then got the win off a Roll-Up on Rodriguez like it was a Divas Match, pinning the Women’s IC Champion and advancing to MITB.
Out in the parking lot, BECKY LYNCH confronted Stephanie Vaquer. Vaquer pointed out that Lynch didn’t want to help her anymore in regards to Vaquer getting attacked by The Judgement Day, and Lynch arrogantly claimed she’d reached her ‘helping threshold’ after the assist at the live event in Chile. Lynch demanded that she gets the first shot at the gold and made herself further unlikeable with a sarcastic goodbye in Spanish.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Two matches that honestly could have been a whole lot better than they were. The Mixed Tag was passable enough with a beatdown finish that put the heat back on the heels. Vaquer had a good homeland moment with the live event win, but work needs to be done harder now to make this storyline work, as Lynch continues to act just like a regular heel and the numbers game is still in effect. Meanwhile, Lola Vice might have gotten the expected win in her Raw debut, but she was hit and miss in the match with wild strikes and kicks at points. I’d dare said Kelani Jordan made the better of her spotlight in the match with a great showing, when it should have been Vice making the statement. We’ll see if the hot and cold career that Vice had suffered in NXT with being good and bad and points will still be an issue now on the main roster.
