SummerSlam creeps ever closer with the World Championship clash between Iyo Sky and Liv Morgan the lead women’s match on the biggest show of the Summer. Other twists have happened from the past week, with the announcement of a Women’s Ladder Match to decide an Interim WWE Women’s Champion. Not forgetting the crowning of new Women’s Tag Team Champions in Fatal Influence after they stole a win over Brie Bella and Paige. What new twists and turns will we see on one of the final shows before SummerSlam? Let’s get into it, and find out…
This week’s ‘Arrived Earlier Today’ videos featured MAXXINE DUPRI with The Vision.
Dupri and Logan Paul would accompany The Vision as Austin Theory and Bron Breakker defeated Je’Von Evans and Dragon Lee. Dupri would get involved during the match, grabbing Lee’s leg while Logan distracted the ref, allowing Breakker to deck Lee with a Clothesline. After the match, Dupri’s former team of Alpha Academy took the fight to The Vision. Dupri would slap Otis but it wasn’t enough of a distraction as the fight continued. The Vision would regain the edge, leaving the Academy laid out as Dupri gleefully watched on from the corner.
LIV MORGAN and The Judgement Day harassed Danhausen for their money, bullying him to go get it.
RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ and ROXANNE PEREZ were interviewed, as Perez hypocritically said the group doesn’t take kindly to cheaters. Byron Saxton announced that Rodriguez would be challenging (again) for the Women’s IC title against Sol Ruca, and that news didn’t appear to sit completely well with Perez. Rodriguez complained about ‘Judgement Day haters’ who had cost her the title in the past, and claimed she was the rightful holder of the IC title.
Another segment in the ring saw The Judgement Day with Liv Morgan confront Danhausen. Beating him up before Joe Hendry made the save. Liv Morgan stole what she thought was their money back in a big bag, but a later segment in the show revealed it was full of fake cash.
Women’s IC Champion SOL RUCA was interviewed about next week’s title match. Ruca said she was stoked for the challenge, pointing out that she’d beaten Rodriguez before and was going to do it again. LYRA VALKYRIA interrupted, bitterly praising Ruca for doing such a great job with the title she created. Ranting that she ran Bayley out of the WWE, before threatening to come back for what’s hers no matter who won next week.
Liv Morgan would be in Dominik Mysterio’s corner for his match against Joe Hendry. Morgan would interfere, running Hendry into the ring post as the ref was distracted and when Danhausen came out, she decked him with a Forearm to send him packing. Later on, Morgan would distract to allow Mysterio to hit a Tornado DDT. However, Danhausen would drive out in the Hausenmobile and this time had IYO SKY along for the ride. The two title rivals fought at ringside, with Sky hitting a Shotei then driving Morgan into the apron before sending Morgan into the ring so she could hit the Springboard Missile Dropkick, kip up and DID THE THING. Hitting a Crossbody off the apron to wipe out Morgan on the floor before the men’s match finished with Hendry pinning Mysterio after Danhausen’s Triple D.
Maxxine Dupri and The Vision were interviewed. Dupri bragged about backing up her ‘bad boy’ Theory and referred to her and her man as ‘Maximum Pressure’ and if anyone messed with her man, they’d feel her wrath. The tag match between the men’s teams would be confirmed for next week, along with the Women’s IC title match between Ruca and Rodriguez.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
There were no Women’s Matches on the show, which is a huge disappointment. Rerunning the Women’s IC Title match between Ruca and Rodriguez was predictable from last week’s brawl, and Perez’s reaction to the news continued the building story of her being less than thrilled with her spot in The Judgement Day. The brawl between Morgan and Sky was better than nothing, but I’d expect the same next week during the IC title match. Valkyria at least got a little bit of screen time after her SNME win, and we’ll see if Bayley is truly gone or if the WWE is working us all again. Lastly, there was no mention of Smackdown’s WWE title situation or the Ladder match, so it seems that contest is only for the blue brand roster. It would have been fun for a little Raw participation but it’s no major issue that there isn’t.
